“Round Sky and Square Earth” is a digital interactive media using “Processing” software. By moving the mouse around, random color lines appear and finally form the shapes shown on the image. This piece gives the viewers a chance to explore the evolution of the Chinese iconography, its evolution and its significance in early Chinese history.

“Round Sky and Square Earth” is a basic concept in traditional Chinese iconography that appeared before the first century BCG. The notion then was the ground on which a person stand was thought of its limits to be square. What was above that ground was thought of its limits to be round and the shape in between refers to Ancient Chinese coins as well as a clock.
