Dongpu Ling is an intermedia artist born in Shanghai, China, currently based in Los Angeles, California. In 2021, she received her MFA in art and technology / Integrated Media from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). She is working at the intersection of interactive installation and performance art, specifically her works explore the space among digital and physical entities by creating a multidisciplinary relationship with machine intelligence. Her fascination with the unseen, including body senses, data transformation, and theoretical physics, is various. Her work spans multiple media formats including interactive installation, sculptures, videos, and performance art. In her mind and world, time does not exist without a soul/observer and art does not exist without viewers. Dongpu started her work in visual media, including video and sculpture. Soon afterwards she began exploring interactive media, including algorithm-based mechanics, real-time sensory feedbacks and artificial intelligences. Her work invites viewers into the conversion and the art itself. This is deeply inspired by Duchamp’s quote: “The creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external works by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds their contribution to the creative act.” |
