Tufting
Tufting
Lipotes Vexillifer and Nesophontes Edithae stand as haunting, tactile memorials that connect art and ecological reflection in this series on extinct animals. Created with a tufting gun, each piece captures the species lost to human impact--Lipotes Vexillifer, the Yangtze river dolphin (Baiji), and Nesophontes Edithae, a small Caribbean mammal, both recreated with textured fibers that show presence within the absence. The fibers’ soft, layered strokes offer a powerful contrast, suggesting both the delicacy of these creatures and the irreversible effects of environmental degradation. Together, the works memorialize vanished biodiversity and act as reminders of the urgent need for conservation.
