Bank of Italy, 2024
Augment Reality
Augment Reality
This is an Augmented Reality project that illuminates the historical redlining issue in San Francisco's Chinatown and critique on the injustices suffered by people of color in the gold mining industry. Redlining obstructed access to financial resources for Chinatown's residents and businesses, exacerbating disparities in wealth and opportunity. Concurrently, the gold mining industry subjected Chinese immigrants to systemic racism and violence, depriving them of fundamental rights and dignity. To address these issues, Dongpu creates an interactive experience that delves into Chinatown's history of redlining and gold mining. Through virtual exploration of the Bank of America building, once the Bank of Italy, a pivotal institution in Chinatown's economic landscape, viewers could gain insight into the community's financial struggles and resilience. Complemented by a curated soundtrack featuring sounds emblematic of railroad and mining operations, the project will immerse participants in the harsh realities and discrimination faced by immigrants.
